Monthly Kriyaban Satsang
1st Wednesday evenings, 7:00pm-9:00pm

This satsang is intended to strengthen our sense of community as Yogananda’s disciples and kriyabans by supporting each other through our journey home to God. We have an opportunity to be one of the “small harmonious groups” that Master spoke of in 1945 as a model of peace and harmony to the world. Before we can inspire the world, we need to inspire ourselves and each other.

We will begin with a prayer to invoke the grace of God, pranayama to relax our bodies and quiet our minds, and chanting to awaken our hearts and deepen our devotion. We may share information intended to help deepen our kriya practice followed by a guided kriya yoga meditation. The host will be happy to answer any questions following our kriya practice.

Kriyabans, contact mike@limauro.com if interested in participating. The Zoom link will be sent individually.

Wisdom Satsang with Mike Limauro
Thursday evenings, 7:30pm-8:30pm

Please join us for a weekly discussion of the wisdom teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda, one of the most important spiritual teachers of our time and author of the spiritual classic, Autobiography of a Yogi. We will begin each session with a short prayer and meditation to tune into divine guidance. Everyone will be invited to share topics they feel guided to discuss during our time together.

We will mindfully bring Yogananda’s teachings to bear on our discussions with an understanding that his teachings bring us a vision of true happiness based on the understanding that it is found within ourselves. He shows us that everyone can be courageous, calm, and confident to effectively deal with any difficulty life sends, because these are qualities of the soul. His teachings guide us to a new and brighter future, filled with inner freedom, purpose, and the realization of our own highest potential. His wonderful vision of life will inspire us to examine the divine potential of all our relationships. Always realistic, practical, and entertaining, Yogananda expresses the challenges we face and shares clear and powerful solutions. He emphasizes that success in life does not depend only upon natural ability. It also depends upon our determination to grasp the opportunity that is presented to us knowing that opportunities in life come by creation, not by chance.

Monthly Divine Will Healing with Mary Thomas
1st and 3rd Saturday mornings, 9:00am-10:15am

Our Divine Will Healing techniques originate from articles on yogic healing by Paramhansa Yogananda. Divine will is omnipresent, residing in every unit of Cosmic Energy or Universal Prana. An opening prayer, affirmation and simple devotional chant are followed by a short meditation. In this way, the heart and mind are prepared to offer individual and world prayers.

Paramhansa Yogananda, author of the spiritual classic, Autobiography of a Yogi, taught specific techniques for awakening healing energy within each individual. These techniques have been found to overcome physical, emotional, and spiritual difficulties including serious illnesses. He emphasized that we should use our God-given powers to heal ourselves and others, but not think of them as our own powers. He stated that darkness cannot remain where the Light is present. Attuning ourselves to God’s Light (that which is present in every atom of creation) through meditation, prayer, affirmation, and other means can drive away the darkness of disease in a person’s body, mind and soul.

“The instrument is blessed by that which flows through it.” — Paramhansa Yogananda

The Essence of Self-Realization, Step Two on the Path of Kriya Yoga
Wednesday evenings, 7:00pm-9:00pm
February 21 through May 15, 2024

The principles of Self-Realization, consistently practiced, awaken us to our deepest reality of oneness with the Infinite and the experience of divine joy. As a spiritual art and science, Raja Yoga is unique in that it encourages us to test the truth of its principles, not simply to believe them. Using the many tools Raja Yoga gives us, we can determine first hand whether it lives up to its promise.

This course is based on the teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda, author of the spiritual classic Autobiography of a Yogi, and focuses on the essential principles of Self-Realization. In this 10 week course, you will learn how to deepen your meditation. You will discover how the inspired wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita integrates with a deeper understanding of Judeo-Christian beliefs. You will be introduced to the famous Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and his Eight-Fold Path, also known as Ashtanga Yoga. This course will benefit people who are new to yoga as well as experienced yogis who want to deepen their understanding and practice of yoga.

Though many people think of yoga primarily in terms of physical postures and exercises (hatha yoga), the term “yoga” properly refers to a comprehensive system of meditation and balanced spiritual living intended to unite the individual soul with the Infinite Spirit. Raja Yoga, which is also known as Royal Yoga, is a system of philosophy, meditation, yoga postures, breathing, healing, and diet that leads us to the realization of our highest Self. This course shows the interdependence of these seemingly separate areas and how all of them, when correctly approached, promote physical, mental, and emotional health and further our spiritual progress.

All classes begin at 7:00pm and end at 9:00pm. Here are the dates and descriptions for each class:

May 8, 2024 Week 9: Pranayama and the Power of Kundalini

May 15, 2024 Week 10: Review of weeks 6 through 9 and discussion about the next steps on the Path of Kriya Yoga

The Essence of Self-Realization is step two on the Path of Kriya Yoga. There are four steps leading to Kriya Yoga initiation. Kriya Yoga became widely known through Paramhansa Yogananda’s spiritual classic, Autobiography of a Yogi. It is a spiritual path that includes advanced meditation techniques that quickly accelerate one’s spiritual growth. Kriya Yoga works by giving the practitioner pranayama, or control of the life force. Through life force control, the yogi is able to overcome all of the obstacles preventing union with the Divine.

These classes are offered in person at the Lighthouse Center, 740 E. Shore Drive, Whitmore Lake, MI 48189 and on Zoom.

    10:00am-12:00pm Talk by Nayaswami Asha:

    Personal and Planetary Evolution

These days we are all subject to the ancient Chinese curse: May you live in interesting times.* Do outward conditions determine our inward reality? If yes, what is the proper response to the world we live in now — to work for change or accept conditions as they are? Can we hope for a miracle? What brings true happiness and what causes suffering?

*According to legend, this is the lowest of the trilogy of curses. The second is, “May you come to the attention of those in authority.” The first, and worst, is, “May the gods give you everything you ask for.”

7:30pm – 8:30pm Talk by Nayaswami Asha: Map for the Journey

Where are you now? Where are you going? And how are you going to get there? Sometimes the hardest thing to figure out is, “What should I do next?” Forward for one person may be backwards for someone else. Paramhansa Yogananda said you only have to practice 1% of what he taught to make great spiritual progress. But which 1%? That is where the science of Self-realization becomes an art.

Talk by Nayaswami Asha: How To Love and Be Loved

One of the most compelling promises in the Bible is, “Perfect love casts out all fear.” How do we find and express that perfect love? One of the secrets is understanding God as Divine Mother. Spirituality cannot be imposed from the outside. It grows like a seed. It can’t be rushed; no stage of growth can be skipped. Generous giving is essential, but so also is receptivity. Authenticity. Sincerity. These are the foundation stones of true spirituality.
